Dumbledire and the Terrible Secret

Sneaking in ahead of Dumbledire, Mercedes is greeted by the shocking sight of changeling children in a cage!



Behind her, she can here Dumbledire bumbling down the stairs towards her position.

Having seen enough, Mercedes ensures her invisibility is up, activates Enhanced Reflexes and the Battle Fury on her sword. She waits beside the stairs for this sick bastard to pass by and as soon as he does, starts to stab at him viciously. She remains silent and wordless as she tries to make her sword plunge through him to the hilt. She won't stop until he falls. If he does finally succumb, Mercedes will lop off his head and spit on his body.

"Sonofabitch! Death is too good for you!"

As it turns out Dumbledire is no wizard but an alchemist and he tries to say as much as Mercedes appears out of nowhere to strike him down. "Wait no! I can share with you much of the lost secrets of blood magic! With the blood of this scum I can make you powerful beyond imagination!" He feeble tries to defend himself but the fight goes more or less like this

Dumbledire is remarkably durable (400MDC!) but no match for Mercedes and her Battle Fury (No Combat Training!). Soon his head rolls across the floor to rest at the bars where the young changelings stand. They appear to be between 7 and 8 but it's impossible to tell because they've all morphed to look more or less alike. They look to Mercedes with identical expressionless faces.

"Fat lot o' good your blood magic did for you, piece of shit." Mercedes hisses, spitting on the corpse again.

Quickly, she searches the dead man's dwelling for anything that looks important, leaving the children for the time being. Mercedes uses her sense magic ability to search rapidly for anything of true value. She's also hoping that either on the man or somewhere nearby will be a key (in addition to anything the Venethrax may want). Failing that, she'll just attack the lock until it gives.

She addresses the kids with atypical compassion. Crouching down, she asks,
"Are you children all right? Can you shape-change to look human? Quickly now, we have to go. Stay together and follow me."

And with that, Mercedes leads the lot of them back to the Roughnecks compound.
