Character Name: Private, First Class Nigel Moot
Alias: None
Race: Human
O.C.C.: Psi-Nullifier
Alignment: Unprincipled
XP Level: 2
XP Points: 2,121
Next Level @ XP: 4,241
Sentiments/Non-Humans: Doesn't like them or trust them and tends to blame them for for everything that goes wrong within CS society. That said, doesn't he doesn't try to hurt, use or abuse them, he just wishes they would go elsewhere.
Sentiments/Coalition: Believes the CS are the heroes for Humankind and their salvation until proven otherwise.
Disposition: Quiet and a little shy, Nigel was dedicated to protecting humanity in his early years. His development at the hands of the CS scientists gave him a gift he feels should be leveraged for the good of humanity. When he was old enough, he happily joined Psi-Net where he likes to think himself a team player and lends his efforts to support his squad, friends and family. Young and loyal to the CS, he is neither blind nor naive to the plight of the various D-Bees he's encountered, particularly in his early days patrolling the 'Burbs. Despite what the broadcasts say, he just wishes D-Bees would find someplace else to go; he has no qualms whatsoever about killing demons and monsters, and hesitates only a little when facing off against mages. Seeing his position as a tool to help better the life of his parents and younger siblings, he hopes to rise through the ranks of Psi-Net, perhaps even become an officer.
Insanity: None

Character Background: Nigel grew up the eldest of five children to a middle-class family. From the respectable middle-level to one of the primary archaeology towers within the walled CS city of Chillicothe, Nigel’s mother (Cora) worked as a scientist at a military munitions plant, his father (Matthew) a medical doctor employed with the ISS. As he went through the standard childhood tests for psionics and other abilities, his parents were honoured and thrilled that their son could be a niche soldier in the defense of Humanity. During the remainder of his childhood, playing with and watching over his sisters, Tasha and Karine, and brother Reece, the thought that he would be called upon for testing at the "special academy" was always a consideration. When the day came, he was nervous yet excited that he would please his parents and siblings. They took him from his family shortly after his tenth birthday.

In a city he was never allowed to visit, in a region he was never allowed to know, he was subjected to a battery of experiments. Manipulation of his DNA through supplements, cognitive stimulation and physical exercises, were heavily supplemented by Psychic alterations. Ultimately, they achieved their aim in making him anathema to those that exerted their psychic measures. It surprised few that the psychic abilities he demonstrated were medical or sense style powers; the influence of his parents’ professions played a large role. His education and strength grew until the Psi-Battalion evaluators concluded his instruction and assimilation was complete.

After a brief visit with his grateful and proud family, his first assignment was supporting the patrols of the ‘Burbs. As Nigel reminisced on such things, this was the beginning of his real education. He experienced the true nature of life outside the confines of CS citizenship. He was forced to interact with D-Bees and humans that more times than not scoffed at the idea of CS citizenship, and went up against the two true evils he has come to know: mages, and the D-Bees, monsters and mercenaries from the Tolkeen Retributor Squads, and the cruel apathy or vile spitefulness of some of his fellow comrades. He was an ardent tracker of all things magic and daemonic, but kept his true feelings for both the D-Bees and humans eking out a life in squalor, from those he loathed. His shyness was assumed the result of his training, and he came to rely on that arms-length his squad mates gave him to contemplate and focus on his feelings for the residents of the ‘Burbs.

Seeing his position as a tool to help better the life and support his parents and younger siblings, he hopes to continue leveraging his abilities against the wretched cancer of demons and monsters threatening the CS, and the mages 'playing with fire' by employing the very magical resources that brought about these threats. His personal opinion on D-Bees aside, he hopes to rise through the ranks of Psi-Net, perhaps even become an officer. As a coping mechanism, Nigel enjoys hobby gardening, which he uses to help source the herbs and spices, and legumes for his cooking.

Extra Info

Roll to save vs Insanity (12+): 1d20: [16] = 16

Insanities Selection
  • Affective Disorder: Hates Bugs of All Kinds. Easily the easiest one for me to role-play, as this is my reality. As a child, playing effectively “cowboys and Indians” with some friends off the shore of Lake Ontario, I witnessed a giant preying mantis. When I approached, it leapt on to my face (I can attest, Alien Facehuggers be *FAST*) and chewed my eyebrow. I threw it back on its rock, and with a yell, butt-stroked its thorax, only to have the juices fly back into my face and mouth. I “wake up” after a 2 kilometer and fully catatonic scream. Basically this, but insert Nigel for me, LOL
  • Obsession: Magic Items. As a result of the rigours of his time in “the lab,” Nigel developed an absolute hatred for all things magical and magic items. Manipulation of his genetics and bio-chemistry to cultivate his natural abilities involved various physical and psychological rigours; these included a series of indoctrination sessions creating mental bulwarks to reinforce his natural abilities. The idea that magic and magic items have been perverted and the pre-emptive cause of the problems for the Coalition States has ingrained a deep loathing of magic and magic items.
  • Disgusted by Anything Sticky. During the early months at the “special academy,” the medical procedures produced violent physical reactions; none more remarkable that the violent onset of vomiting of a runny, mucous-like substance. His first bout coincided with two other students, as they and four others were using an elevator. The incident scarred everyone, but Nigel had lost consciousness and awoke to nurses placing him on a gurney, strands of mucous membrane covering his face, arms and chest.
Just a funny little coincidence I noticed; these random dice rolls and bonuses bring my character's attributes pretty much straight in-line with a blog post I did imagining myself as a Rifted character.
